Hitomezashi patterns are numerous, but the common design theme is one of blocks of plain weave ground which are bordered or split by pattern threads.

In order to arrange them in a way that may be most useful for weavers, the drafts have first been been grouped by whthe number of ground weave blocks, then by then by whether the blocks are bordered or split by pattern warp threads, and finally by similarities in threading and tieup

​The threadings below are examples of the basic arrangement which may vary somewhat in more complex designs.
