Moyouzashi Drafts

Moyouzashi sashiko-ori is distinguished by several characteristics that make it more difficult to weave. The designs are often non-repeating large scale ones with curved lines.

However, simpler figures with straight lines of running stitches are possible for the weaver to create. In these patterns, unlike the standard for hitomezashi, the pattern threads to not touch at intersections and they do not cross over each other. What appears as a single pattern warp or weft at the intersection point disappears when the cloth is finished and the surrounding threads slide over the intersection and cover the pattern thread at the intersection point.

Ground threads are shown light, pattern threads are dark.
